Pain in side near "love handles"?

Hey i was playing rugby and as i went to pull someone down i was hit fairly hard by a knee. Usually it wouldn't hurt but this was sure hurting and it was even painful to walk or move. I was hit down the side of my pelvis near the "love handles" area and after a week the pain eased down. although a few days ago we were playing touch rugby, someone brushed past the spot and it starting hurting a lot... again. As i felt the area it did feel slightly wierd under the skin, it is like a ripple effect. It is only painful when i touch it now. Is this anything to be alarmed by? do i need to see a medical proffesional? can i still play regularly(twice a week)?
