Contractions and mucas??

i have ped my mucas plug over the last 4 days and i have been having contractions for three days...i saw the doctor yesterday and she wants me to wait untill my contractions are closer together before i go to the hospital...i am at 40 weeks and in a lot of pain...my contractions are all over the place from 5 minutes apart to an hour apart....but i am very uncomfortable...not to mention i have been diagnosed with bells palsy 2 days ago....just what i needed!!! please tell me things i can do to speed this process along...i know its gotta be close but i cant take much more
