Was it a trend in the 'olden days' just to let your hair carry on growing?

There were few barbers in the 'olden days'. Some people couldn't afford to go there. Some people didn't take the time to go there. Some people didn't care if they went or not. Hair was not important. Remember hygiene was not like it is now. People only bathed when it was absolutely necessary and/or once a week. There was no plumbing so they had to carry water from the creek or river. They didn't have time to do that unless they were going to church so they took a bath on Saturday night.
