Is Step-parenting really that awful?

I think being a step parent is actually harder than being a natural parent. You are supposed to love the step child like your own, treat the step child like your own, but don't get a say in the childs punishment if he/she disrespects or doesn't listen to you. You basically have all the responsibilities and none of the say so a normal parent has.
