How does dye take to acetate and polyester?

I've got an old prom dress that was very light pink that I'd like to dye yellow or gold. Will the dye take to an acetate shell and polyester lining? Will it accidentally turn out peach tone? Would I be better off spray painting it gold? (It's for a Belle from Beauty and the Beast Costume, specifically). any help would be fantastic!
